question to reveal answers. (Re-clicking an item will collapse it.)
- Can ADDAPT 2000 be installed on Windows NT 4.0?
- Yes, and if your intention is to
use just the serial link there should be no problems if you
install mdac_typ (2.5) prior to installing ADDAPT 2000. For
ethernet installations it is recommended that you apply service
pack 6 or higher before installing ADDAPT 2000. For information
on service packs see http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/search.asp.
-
During Installation I received a message that a dll
did not register. What do I do?
- The ADDAPT 2000 Installation
uses regsvr32.exe which should be in your workstation’s system
directory. At a command prompt you can run regsvr32 with the
file(s) not registered as parameters. If regsvr32 is run against
a registered dll, no harm is done. The following is a list of
files in the ADDAPT directory which need to be registered:
AddaptAPI.dll
SelectionSection.dll
Maintenance.dll
SignalAnalyzerSetup.dll
LegendButton.ocx
Dao360.dll
-
During Installation I received a message that
addaptapi.dll did not register.
What do I do?
- RegisterComServer.exe (found in
the addapt directory) registers all of the following:
AddaptAPI.dll
SelectionSection.dll
Maintenance.dll
SignalAnalyzerSetup.dll
If the error message repeats after running RegisterComServer,
call Avtron Field Service for assistance.
- My new installation disk for
ADDAPT 98 V14 will
not install on my Windows 2000 system.
What can I do?
- That is correct. ADDAPT 98 will
not install on Windows 2000. You must purchase the newer ADDAPT
2000. You will be pleased to know that ADDAPT 2000 does support
ethernet now and that can enhance your workstation to drive
performance. Any ethernet card should work fine. It is suggested
that a 100 MHz card be chosen if your network will support 100
MHz.

- I am trying to
update from ADDAPT 98 V16 to ADDAPT 2000 V10 and I receive an
error message saying ADDAPT is running. What should I do?
- This message occurs when the
ADDAPT Installer (*.msi) is corrupt or has been deleted. First
try to uninstall any ADDAPT versions listed in the Control Panel
-> Add/Remove Program and then attempt to re-install ADDAPT. If
that fails and you have Tweak UI (Control Panel), use the
Add/Remove Tab and attempt to remove ADDAPT and re-install. If
ADDAPT still refuses to install, call Avtron Field Service.
Attempting to correct the problem can be very hazardous to your
workstation. However, it can be corrected by using regedit.
Launch regedit.exe and find the two keys under a key named
Installer, that is 32 hex numerals long, and delete both keys.
Find the mentioned key by searching for ADDAPT 2000.

One of my
old favorite programs stopped working after installing ADDAPT 2000.
The error message I received calls out a runtime library as the
culprit. How can I fix it?
- Contact the producer of your
favorite program for an update. Microsoft has acknowledged
compatibility problems with Msvcrt.dll and Msvccirt.dll. These
dll's may be updated during installation. As of 06/01/2003,
ADDAPT 2000 has been tested with all the later versions of these
runtime dll's.
-
One of my old favorite
programs stopped working after installing ADDAPT 2000.
How can I fix
it?
- ADDAPT relies on Microsoft’s
mdac_typ (you are required to run this program for NT and some
98 installations) program to install the latest Active X
components. If an older program stops working properly, you
should contact the producer of the program for an update. The
registered Microsoft components that ADDAPT uses are as follows:
Msvbvm60.dll
Ole32.dll
OleAut32.dll
OlePro32.dll
MFC42.dll
ComDlg32.ocx
Atl.dll
OleAut32.dll

I installed ADDAPT 2000
V10 on my WinNT system and the Start -> Program ->
ADDAPT 2000
shortcut does not work. How do I setup the
shortcut?
- To correct this problem, go to
the Start -> Settings -> Taskbar and click on the Start Menu
Programs Tab. Click on the Add button and browse to the ADDAPT
directory and select addapt.exe.
-
I just installed ADDAPT 98 Version 10 on my Windows 98 workstation
and I receive “cannot create addin create object,” when I
attempt to open a known good Cal/cfg (.add) file.
How do I correct this?
- An ADDAPT Dll was registered out
of sequence and failed. Close ADDAPT if it is running. Go to a
command prompt and change the directory to Program files/Avtron
Manufacturing/Addapt. Type regsvr32 maintenance.dll. You should
be presented with an indication that this operation succeeded.
Alternately, in Windows, go to the ADDAPT directory and
double-click registercomserver.exe. Start ADDAPT.
-
I just updated to
Version 11 on my Windows 98 workstation and ADDAPT does not work.
What happened?
- An ADDAPT Dll was probably in
memory when you updated. Closing ADDAPT does not guarantee
memory will be immediately flushed. If in the ADDAPT directory
you find mainte~1.dll and addapt~1.dll, rename them to
maintenance.dll and addaptapi.dll.
-
I just
installed ADDAPT Version 11 on my Windows 98 workstation and it does
not communicate with my drives. I am using an 802.4 token bus LAN.
How do I correct this?
- There have been instances of the
ADDAPT installation program not recognizing Windows 98 and not
extracting the Add8024.vxd file. Verify that this file is in
your Windows/System directory. If it is not, you can extract it
from the ADDAPTV2000V111.cab using WinZip.
-
I updated to latest
Windows 2000 and my realtime screens will not come up. Also every
time I set the path in the Option Dialog it comes up blank? What do
I do to correct this?
- Verify that the Microsoft Visual
Basic Registry Key exists. It is HKEY_CURRENT_USER
->Software->VB and VBA Program Settings->Avtron Manufacturing->ADDAPT->Realtime
Directory. Create this key if necessary. Verify that this key
has the following path: c:\Program Files\Avtron Manufacturing\ADDAPT\Realtime
Screens.
-
I installed
ADDAPT 2000 V12 on my Windows 98 machine and when I start my
workstation, it tells me to re-install. How do I fix this?
- The installation program failed
to recognize that your workstation has a Windows 98 operating
system. If you are capable of editing the registry, follow the
instructions below. Otherwise contact Avtron Field
Service for assistance.
Using regedit transcend to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Avtron
Manufacturing/ADDAPT/Parameters. With Parameters highlighted
select Edit->New->DWORD Value and add OS. Then select
Edit->Modify and change Value data to 1. Restart ADDAPT.

- ADDAPT
2000 does not work on Windows 2000 when I am logged on as a User.
How do I get it to work?
- While logged onto Windows 2000
as a User, open the ADDAPT shortcut and check the Run as
different user box.
When you click the shortcut, you will be prompted to enter a
user name and password. Of course the user name must be one that
has administrator privileges.
- ADDAPT
2000 does not work on Windows 2000 when I am logged on as a Power
User. How do I get it to work?
- While logged onto Windows 2000
as an Administrator, open System32/regedt32.exe. Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Avtron Manufacturing. Highlight
Add32Server, Last User, Security and Parameters one at a time
and select the Security->Permissions pull-down menu and add
Full-Control to all of the keys for each User that runs ADDAPT.
Verify that all sub-keys under Avtron are at
Full-Control for the intended User.
Using the Advanced->View/Edit buttons for each key, insure the
following check boxes are checked:
Query Value, Set Value, and Create Subkeys.

Printing FAQ's
Click to
reveal questions.
-
Click on
question to reveal answers. (Re-clicking an item will collapse it.)
- My print outs are so small that I cannot read them.
What can I do?
- ADDAPT 2000 attempts to print
with Courier, 10pt fonts. This font is usually available. You
can use the Control Panel to verify its existence. Your problem
may be that your printer device driver is set to 600 dpi. Change
the resolution to 300 dpi. If that does not work, change the
printer device driver to a driver that only supports 300 dpi. On
Windows 2000 workstations you can print to the Generic Text Only
printer device driver and then print the resultant file. Use Add
Printers from the Control Panel and find “Generic” in the
“Manufacturers” list. On NT 4.0 and Windows 98 printing to
Generic Text does not always work well.
If this solution does not work, request an upgrade service pack
for ADDAPT. The latest upgrade contains three selectable font
sizes for printing. Additionally, a file can be saved as a .csv
file and then imported into common spreadsheets and editors. At
that point you can enhance the page formatting and print the
file.
- When I use Print to CSV, my font selection
does not seem to work. How can I print in the font I
want?
- When Print to CSV is selected,
the resulting file is saved with your current system fonts, not
the selection from the print dialog. You can change these fonts
by changing the settings of the Active Desktop. Right click on
your desktop and select Active Desktop, Customize My Desktop,
Settings.
- I am unhappy with the Calibration and Configuration
Printouts. Is there anything I can do to enhance them?
- Use the Print to CSV Option. The
resulting file can be imported into Excel, WordPad, or Word.
After importing you can format and print the file with the
options of your choice.

Auto Configuration FAQ's

- I tried to Auto
Configure with the serial com port and I got the following: No Drivers
Found! Verify Tools->Options Drivers are enabled.
Why is this?
- If you received the above error
message immediately and not seconds after trying to Auto
Configure, something is claiming your serial port. RS Linx,
scanner software, modems, etc., are all candidates. Conversely,
if the error response was presented after a couple seconds, the
hardware from your workstation to the drive is the likely source
of your problem.
- I used Auto
Configure with the serial com port selected and everything seemed to
work properly. I then tried to upload a drive and
ADDAPT locked up.
What is causing this and what should I do?
- Something is claiming your
serial port in response to its activity. UPS, PLC, scanner,
modem, and serial mouse software, are all candidates. First,
check the Resource tab in your Device Manager and verify that it
indicates "No conflicts." If there is a conflict, determine if
you can disable the offending software or cause it to point to
another com port. You may have to uninstall the software if you
do not have a free com port. Note that a special Service which
claims a serial com port is used by some commercial
applications. Services can be disabled via the Services applet.
The product manual of the offending software should be of
assistance.
If you do not know how to find
the Device Manager or Service applet (they are OS specific), use
the OS Help to locate them. You can click on an empty part of
your Desktop and press F1 to invoke the OS Help.

- I received
a message that my template file was corrupt or missing. What can
I do?
- This message occurs when Tools
->ADDAPT Maintenance is selected and you try to open calibration
file (.add) and the appropriate .tem was not found in the
directory declared by Tools -> Options -> Template Files
(usually program files/avtron manufacturing/ addapt/template).
Copy the correct .tem file to that directory. If you need to
create this file from old files, copy the DOS templates to the
directory declared by Tools -> Options -> Template DOS Files.
Erase any corrupted .tem files (1K in size) found in the
Template Files directory. Then run File -> DOS Conversion
Utility.
- I cannot get my DOS files to

- Copy your DOS templates to the
directory declared by Tools -> Options -> Template DOS Files.
Erase any corrupted .tem files (1K in size) found in the
Template Files directory. Insure that your DOS template files
are not read-only. Then run File -> DOS Conversion Utility as
described in the User’s Manual.
