Avtron Cold Rolling Control Systems maximize the uptime, performance, and final product quality of these key mills. Our zero-downtime, limited system upgrades can improve the reliability and performance of your cold mill without a major capital expenditure.
Avtron has experience on multiple mill upgrades and world-class results have been achieved in Pickling and Cold Rolling installations in both North America and Asia. We offer your mill engineered drive system and diagnostic solutions for all types of Cold Rolling Applications including Pickle Lines and both Single/Two Stand Cold Mills and Tandem Cold Mills.
Our Performance View Process Diagnostic System is especially important for Cold Rolling Mills. The system automatically records events, status bits, drive values, and PLC data from controllers with the speeds necessary to troubleshoot and repair Cold Rolling Mill controls. The data is quickly and easily searched and manipulated with our P.V. Viewer software to allow problems to be identified and repaired. The data can also be used in a Predictive or Preventive Maintenance Program to establish 'normal running conditions' that can be used for periodic checks and comparisons with current mill operating values. |

Avtron has a wealth of experience in
upgrading Pickle Lines. We have used our entire family of ADDvantage-32
(TM)
Drive products to upgrade the Entry End, the Process Section and the
Delivery Ends of continuous Pickle Lines. We have also used these
products in Push-Pull Pickle Line upgrades. Our
capability also includes AC Drives for these
applications.
Avtron has
developed application-specific drive software solutions
in both the DC and AC drives for Multi-Roll
Bridles and for Payoff and Tension Reel upgrades. We have many features
built into the standard drive software that allow easy conversion of
these sections to new drives. We can easily upgrade multi-roll bridles
with Master Roll Speed Regulator and Slave Roll Load Share
configurations. Our Coiler software includes three Diameter Calculation
methods, Diameter-based Variable Inertia Compensation, Fixed Tare and
Speed-based Variable Tare. These features allow the upgrade to be done
with a minimum of hardware because all of the critical control functions
are built into the drive.

Reversing Mills |

We
have a wide range of retrofit experience in Cold Reversing Mill
Upgrades. We have project experience using either new drives or drive
retrofits for upgrading existing DC Mills. We can also offer AC drives
for new applications or upgrades in which the existing DC motor can be
changed to AC.
Both our AC and DC drives include a
built-in tension control regulator and a Maxi-Torque Algorithm for the
Payoff or Tension Reel. This feature automatically changes the Mill
Master Speed based on the speed-torque operating point of the Payoff or
Tension Reel motors as the diameter changes. In addition, the Main Mill
and multi-motor Bridles can be easily configured for individual speed
regulation when no strip is in the mill or master speed/slave load share
control when strip is present.
Our drives easily integrate into the Mill
Level 1 Automation System using the high-speed, fiber-optic Ethernet
Communications built into each drive. This allows the mill set-up to be
downloaded to the drives and actual operating values to be uploaded to
the Level 1.

Tandem Mills |

Avtron’s ADDvantage-32
(TM)
DC Drives have been applied on Tandem Mill upgrade applications. Our drive
products offer our Tandem Mill customers a choice when upgrading the
mill. We offer retrofit solutions or complete drive replacement as
options for these upgrades. Retrofits are available for upgrading MG
sets with new field regulators or for new regulators and firing hardware
on older SCR drives. We have supplied both SCR retrofits and new drives
for 12-pulse, multi-parallel bridge applications.
We use our high-speed, fiber-optic
Ethernet Communications to interface to existing or new Level 1 Process
Automation Systems. The Level 1 can upload actual data from the drives
during rolling and download the mill setup between coils.

control partners, we can provide a complete mill upgrade solution,
including:

expertise in Temper Rolling Applications. We have used both AC and
DC Drive solutions to upgrade Payoff Reels, Bridles, Main Mill Stands
and Tension Reels for these applications.
