5000 HP Plate Mill Drive System

Avtron secured a contract for a Greenfield Plate Mill Drive system from a major Mill Builder. The system will be designed jointly and will consist of 2X 2500 HP 12 Pulse DC Drives to power and control existing DC machines. The system will be manufactured at the Avtron facility located in Cleveland, Ohio. The L-2 automation and process control will be developed by the Mill Builders Integration Group. System integration will take place at Avtron facility with the project team joining their US counterparts in preparation for delivery and on-site commissioning. (click on image to enlarge)

Bar Mill
Avtron supplied the complete DC drives and automation system for a new Bar Mill located in Bangkok, Thailand. The system included 16 main stand drives and a new PLC for minimum tension rolling and cooling bed control. (click on image to enlarge)

Hot Strip Mill
Avtron provided all of the main drives for an existing Hot Strip Mill in China. The system included a combination of digital front ends on the existing armature drives for the Roughing Mill and replacement motor-generator set field regulators for the Finishing Mill. (click on image to enlarge)

Vessel Tilt System
An existing GE drive system was replaced with Avtron armature drives and a new PLC for a BOF Vessel Tilt System at a large Western steel producer.  The system included dual drives with the capability to quickly switch to back-up drives or motors in the event a problem occurred with the system. The PLC included redundant hot back-up CPUs with automatic switch-over if a failure occurred. Blast Furnace Skip Hoist
Avtron has supplied five Blast Furnace Skip Hoists systems to one of the largest steel companies in the U.S. New redundant armature drives were included with the capability for fast switching between various drive/motor combinations to maximize uptime on the furnace. (click on image to enlarge)
