SURFACE MINING Over the past 15 years, Avtron has installed digital drive systems on every major type of surface mining equipment including shovels, draglines, drills, and conveyors. We specialize in rugged and reliable solutions for tough applications. We have developed extensive application knowledge and experience to aid mines in improving the productivity and availability of their existing equipment. We have a large installed base on P&H, Bucyrus, and Marion machinery with over 100 installations worldwide. We provide specific hardware solutions for any existing drive system including AC and DC drives, MG set field upgrades, digitally firing any existing analog drive, and providing remote diagnostic capability over Ethernet. Upgrades are tailored to the mine’s specific needs, reducing capital expense and providing faster upgrades. Our mining solutions improve productivity, with higher availability and better cycle times, resulting in the highest performing equipment in the industry.

 

Shovels

Avtron Drive System upgrades can provide new digital drives, firing modules, MG set field supplies, RPC control, industry-standard PLCs, operator displays (HMI), and joysticks. We have developed custom software specifically to optimize hoist, crowd, and swing motion performance on shovels. Results include longer motor life, unequaled availability, and improved productivity. We also provide the world’s most rugged encoders for feedback on AC shovels. The M685 encoder eliminates all troublesome optics, misalignment, and couplings, and has replaceable SMARTach (TM) sensors. Avtron can assist the mine in optimizing production with three types of diagnostics: on board ADDAPT 2000 (TM) drive diagnostics, 24 hour remote diagnostic capability over Ethernet (TM), or the new Avtron Performance View (TM) monitoring system.

Draglines

Avtron Drive System upgrades for draglines include new motor and generator field supplies, synchronous motor control, industry-standard PLCs, operator displays (HMI), and operator controls. Avtron has over 40 years experience in providing MG set control systems on GE and Westinghouse rotating equipment. Hoist, drag, swing, and propel motions are all optimized to maximize performance and reduce downtime. Avtron can assist the mine in optimizing production with three types of diagnostics: onboard ADDAPT 2000 (TM) drive diagnostics, 24 hour remote diagnostic capability via Ethernet (TM), or the new Avtron Performance View (TM) monitoring system.

We have developed custom packages to mount in the existing drive cabinets, or on the deck of Bucyrus, Marion, and Gardner-Denver drills.
